In A.P. English my senior year of high school, we had a U.S. minority women authors section. Our teacher had a selection of books; we were split into groups, and each group read two of the books. I wanted to eventually read all of them, and last week (I think) I finally completed that task. The one I saved until last (i.e., finally got around to) was also my least favorite. Here's the list:
Sula, Toni Morrison
The Bean Trees, Barbara Kingsolver
Beloved, Toni Morrison
Bailey's Cafe, Gloria Naylor
Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zora Neale Hurston
If anyone reading this was also in A.P. English at NHS, 1998-99, and can remember any others, let me know.
It's okay, I mean, I got pretty excited about it, but, I don't know yet. I was kinda jazzed to see how they got where they were!
ReplyDeletewhat do you think about it?
ReplyDeleteGreat list. . . my ongoing list of the same nature is to read all of the books from the game "Authors". I think I'm only halfway there. That goal is definitely going to have to wait until after grad school.
ReplyDeleteI LOOOOVE Peyton, how dare you speak negatively against her!?! haha. I don't like the new outsider girlfriend either, definitely a ho. haha. I agree about Nathan and Haley's looks, Haley is a babe, Nathan is one scary lookin' dude. He needs a shave and a haircut..2bits..
ReplyDeleteaanyway, I think i'll keep watching away and see what happens!
It happened by accident too, but now I've had it stuck in my head for 2 days!
ReplyDeleteI stole Dad's Shadow.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that Like Water for Chocolate might have been on the list. You could always just call Darlene and ask! All I remember is that I read Beloved and didn't really get it. Which ones would you recommend?
