holding on to thankfulness

Even though most people focused on this last Thursday, I'm kind of bummed that Thanksgiving break is already over, so I thought it would be healthy to think of things I'm thankful for right now.

I'm thankful...
that I was able to travel home and see so many loved ones.
that my cat seemed happy to see me this time!
for all of the beloved people in my life.
(and also not thankful, health-wise) that I got to eat so much good food.
for the chance to babysit our nephew.
for running into friends by chance at the grocery store at home -- a week sounds like a long time to be home, but we were so busy that we made no plans with friends. there was much joy in that hug.
for safe travels for everyone.
for good ski deals.
for the privilege of going to school.
for my friends here at school...I think my heart leapt with joy when I saw the first two at the bike racks this morning.
for starting off my day with free, good coffee, three friends, and taking the time to sit down together around a table before rushing off to class.
for sharing in the excitement of new bling on my friend's left ring finger.
for classmates who like to stick around after class just to catch up with each other.

It's a good life.

youtube most viewed video

This is just crazy to me that this is YouTube's Most Viewed Video today. Crazy, I tell you. When I took this screenshot, 1,875,630 views?! It was just uploaded two days ago. Apparently it was also on ESPN twice, including an interview with an assistant coach. And, here on Dr. Saturday, some Yahoo! sports thing. Funny stuff.

we know how to do it up right

Last Saturday I spent a majority of my waking hours at the grocery store. I went out with one item on my list. My regular grocery store didn't have it, so I moved on to the next one. Oh, glorious King Soopers (even though you usually have a funky smell). King Soopers was having their holiday open house where they had all kinds of samples out to promote what they can bring you for your holiday meals/parties. It was awesome. B had decided to stay home, which means I wasn't sure if he would want to come out to go through the grocery store buffet, which means I sampled everything and then went home and proposed that I could take him on a date to the grocery store. He wanted to go that time around. I did not sample everything a second time, but some new items (sushi!) had arrived, so I did have to check that out. Needless to say, we did not have to go home and have lunch afterward. I have to also give a shoutout to King Soopers for always, always having an amazing selection of sample cheeses. I have joked that if people visit us, we should take them on a cheese sampling tour there. My favorite is Drunken Goat.

An addition to this riveting grocery store tale I remembered is that it was hilarious to watch people's reactions to seeing us carrying 16 boxes of cereal (they had an excellent sale on cereal). Reactions ranged from sour to utter surprise. Entertaining.

48 hours of snow

At the end of October, we had 48 straight hours of snow. I profess to hate winter and snow, but this was awesome. Unfortunately for me, it did not get me out of any obligations. The university closed Wednesday at 2pm, but my last class had ended at 10am. The university was open Thursday (the 2nd day in the 48 hours), so I went in for my 8 o'clock...only to discover my professor had canceled our class. Sheesh. Here are the sweet pics.

From the middle of the first day of snow. This is taken from our outside stairwell, from which you can see the stadium.

We were amazed at the skinny area that 16" of snow could pile up on.

Everything kind of looked like it had a jumbo marshmallow sitting on top of it.

From the end of the first 24 hours. I think by the time it stopped, 21-24 inches had accumulated. A lot of the first snow was lost due to the ground being so warm when it started; I wonder what the total that fell was? By the end of the day Friday, you could hardly even tell it had snowed -- it melted off really, really quickly.

things i've learned in grad school: part 1

1. Don't hit your kid for stuttering.
2. Don't hit your kid for faking hearing loss.
3. You could buy a 32-gallon bag of pot for $1 in Vietnam during the war.

knowing the theme music to the young & the restless came in handy

Here's a little internet documentation of some recent fun (really, it was fun...despite my face in the picture!).
